President of African Volleyball Confederation (CAVB), Bouchra Hajij, says Nigeria is safe , secure and capable of hosting more international volleyball events in the future.
Speaking to sports journalists at the Grand finale of the African Women’s Volleyball Club Championship in Abuja on Sunday , Hajij expressed satisfaction at the level of facilities and organization displayed at the 39th African Women’s Volleyball Club Championship.
Hajij who also doubles as the 1st Vice-President of the World Volleyball Federation revealed that hundreds of countries around the World followed the Tournament online especially the final match between defending champions, Zamalek of Egypt and fierce rivals, Al-Ahly of Egypt.
In her words: “We had hundreds of countries from all continents following this game online. Nigeria has shown and demonstrated to all that it is a safe country with standard facilities because you’ve shown that.
“We received 16 teams from Africa, you’re very good, good facilities, good infrastructure, so congratulations. And, i hope in the coming years we’ll host another African championship in beach volleyball or indoor,” Madam Bouchra revealed.
The CAVB president also showered praises on the Organizers and Sponsor, the Nigerian Customs Service for organising a successful tournament while also praising the role the media played
“Also I want to congratulate the Nigerian Customs Service for this great event. Also my thanks goes to the National Federation of Olympic Committee for this wonderful work.
“Not also to forget the media. As you know, every sport grow when the media is around. Thank you very much for your great work,” she said.
The 13 days event witnessed a thrilling all Egyptian final where defending champions Zamalek SC retained their African title after beating rivals Al- Ahly 3-1 .
Kenya’ Prison Volleyball Club of Kenya took home the 3rd position.
Nigeria’s representatives, Nigeria Customs Volleyball Club and CNS Spikers finished 10th and 11th respectively.
