The Ogun State Police Command has arrested five suspects over separate incidents of shop breaking in the Ado-Odo area of the state, with two teenagers allegedly confessing to participating in multiple burglaries.

The command also recovered stolen foodstuffs and other items during the operations, while detectives continued efforts to track down an alleged accomplice who remains at large.

The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Oluborode Opeyemi, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, saying the arrests followed separate incidents recorded in the Ado-Odo axis.

In the first incident, operatives arrested two teenagers, 15-year-old Lateef Kalid and 16-year-old Kareem Jamal, inside a market shop around 3:30am on September 2, 2026.

According to the police, community members alerted authorities after a watchman noticed suspicious movements inside one of the market stalls.

Patrol officers were subsequently mobilised to the scene, where the two teenagers were arrested and stolen foodstuffs and other items recovered.

Police said further interrogation led to the arrest of another teenager, 14-year-old Sofiu Alabi, who allegedly admitted providing the key used to gain access to the shop.

The command said the three suspects had been charged to court.

Two teenagers confess to multiple burglaries

In a related development on September 4, local security operatives of the So-Safe Corps arrested two other teenagers, 16-year-old Taofik Abioro and 15-year-old Ogundele Monday, and handed them over to police detectives.

Preliminary interrogation, according to the command, showed that the two suspects allegedly confessed to participating in multiple shop burglaries across Ado-Odo.

The police said subsequent searches conducted at their premises led to the recovery of additional stolen items.

The case has been transferred for further investigation, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend another suspect believed to be involved in the alleged burglaries.

Police commend community, So-Safe Corps

The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, commended officers of the Ado-Odo Division for their swift response and praised community members and the So-Safe Corps for assisting the police.

Ojajuni stressed the importance of cooperation between security agencies and local communities in tackling criminal activities.

He particularly urged parents, guardians and community leaders to strengthen supervision of young people and discourage them from becoming involved in criminal activities.

The police commissioner also advised business owners to improve basic security around their premises and promptly report suspicious movements to security agencies.

The command urged residents to provide information that could assist ongoing investigations and help prevent further shop break-ins.

Members of the public can contact the police through The Gateway Shield toll-free line: 0800 000 9111, or the emergency numbers 09164859299 and 09154293464.
