Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have neutralised two terrorists and recovered weapons and motorcycles during an operation in Rabah Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The operation, according to the military, followed credible intelligence received in the early hours of August 28, 2026, indicating that terrorists were moving hundreds of rustled cattle through the Maikujera general area of Rabah Local Government Area.
Acting on the intelligence, troops of Sector 2 were deployed to intercept the terrorists and prevent them from moving the stolen livestock.
However, while advancing towards the identified location, the troops reportedly encountered an ambush staged by the terrorists.
The Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lt.-Col. Aliyu Danja, said the troops responded with superior firepower and successfully fought their way through the ambush.
“Troops responded decisively, fought through the ambush with superior firepower and neutralised two terrorists, forcing the remaining elements to flee into the surrounding bushes,” Danja said.
He said troops subsequently conducted an exploitation of the area and recovered two AK-47 rifles and three motorcycles abandoned by the fleeing terrorists.
According to him, the rustled cattle scattered into surrounding bushes during the exchange of gunfire, prompting ongoing efforts by troops and local vigilantes to locate and recover the livestock.
“Efforts are ongoing in conjunction with local vigilantes to locate and recover the livestock,” the military spokesman said.
Danja added that the general area had remained calm and stable, with troops continuing to dominate the area and maintain vigilance against further attacks.
He said Operation FANSAN YAMMA remained committed to sustaining its offensive against terrorists and other criminal elements operating across the North-West.
“Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA remain resolute in sustaining the operational momentum against terrorist and criminal elements while safeguarding lives and property across the Joint Operations Area,” he added.
