Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed Abuja for Freetown, Sierra Leone, where he will represent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the 69th Ordinary Session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
The summit, scheduled to hold at the Julius Maada Bio International Conference Centre in Freetown, will bring together leaders from across West Africa to deliberate on critical issues affecting the region.
A statement issued on Saturday said the meeting is expected to focus on key policy decisions and strategic resolutions aimed at strengthening peace, democracy, economic growth and regional integration among ECOWAS member states.
The gathering forms part of the regional bloc’s mid-year statutory meetings, which convene heads of state and government, ministers, senior government officials and representatives of regional institutions to advance shared priorities.
Discussions at the summit are also expected to cover issues relating to security, democratic governance, trade, infrastructure development, economic integration and sustainable development across the sub-region.
Shettima will join other political and business leaders from West Africa and beyond during the high-level engagement.
The Vice President is expected to return to Abuja at the conclusion of the summit.
