The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Peter Obi, and his running mate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, have met with the party’s governorship candidates for Bauchi, Sokoto and Borno states as part of efforts to strengthen the party’s preparations for the 2027 general elections.
The meeting, held at Kwankwaso’s residence in Maitama, Abuja, brought together the NDC governorship candidate for Bauchi State, Ibrahim Kashim; his Sokoto counterpart, Dr Shamsu Aliyu; and the party’s Borno candidate, retired Admiral Sunusi Ibrahim.
According to the NDC, the meeting provided an opportunity for the party’s leadership and its candidates to assess their level of preparedness and discuss strategies ahead of the elections. The party said the discussions also focused on coordinated campaigns aimed at securing victory for its candidates across the various levels of government.
The party’s Kebbi State Chairman, Alhaji Mustapha Umar, and Sokoto State Chairman, Alhaji Bello Yabo, were among other party leaders who attended the meeting, alongside former party leaders and other stakeholders.
The development comes as the NDC intensifies its mobilisation and organisational activities ahead of the 2027 elections, with Obi and Kwankwaso seeking to strengthen coordination among the party’s candidates and structures, particularly across the northern states. The Obi-Kwankwaso presidential ticket was affirmed at the party’s special convention held in Abuja in May 2026.
