The Lagos State chapter of the Allied People’s Movement (APM) has unveiled an ambitious grassroots mobilisation strategy aimed at delivering more than five million votes to the opposition coalition in the 2027 presidential election, while endorsing Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde as the most suitable consensus candidate to lead the alliance.

The party said the mobilisation drive would cover all the 20 local government areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in Lagos State as part of efforts to unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the next general election.

Speaking in a statement issued on Monday, the APM State Publicity Secretary, Ayodele Kazeem, said the party had already activated structures across the state to convert growing public dissatisfaction into electoral victory for the opposition.

According to him, the mobilisation strategy is being coordinated by the party’s Lagos governorship candidate, Prince Laja Adeoye, and will focus on strengthening polling unit structures, expanding volunteer networks and increasing voter participation ahead of the elections.

“The APM in Lagos is not merely participating in coalition discussions; it is actively building the structures required to translate public dissatisfaction into electoral victory,” Kazeem said.

He explained that the campaign would include aggressive voter registration and Permanent Voter Card (PVC) collection drives, recruitment and training of election agents, deployment of digital campaign platforms and sustained engagement with youths, women, professionals, market associations, transport unions, faith-based organisations and community groups.

“The strategy focuses on strengthening polling-unit structures across Lagos, expanding volunteer networks, mobilising young voters, women and professionals, intensifying voter registration and PVC collection campaigns.

“We are also deploying digital campaign platforms, recruiting and training election agents, and engaging community-based organisations, market associations, transport unions and faith-based groups.

“This is not a campaign built around personalities but around restoring hope to Nigerians through issue-based politics,” he added.

The party also threw its weight behind Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde as the preferred presidential candidate for the proposed opposition coalition, describing him as the most competent, experienced and nationally acceptable leader capable of uniting opposition parties ahead of the 2027 elections.

Kazeem said the endorsement was based on Makinde’s performance in office, leadership qualities and governance record rather than political sentiment.

“APM Lagos firmly believes that if the opposition is truly committed to presenting the Nigerian people with a credible alternative in 2027, then Governor Seyi Makinde stands out as the most qualified, competent and unifying candidate to fly the banner of the coalition.

“This position is not driven by emotion or political convenience. It is based on leadership, competence, performance and national acceptability,” he said.

The party commended Makinde’s administration in Oyo State, citing achievements in road infrastructure, healthcare, education, agriculture, security and fiscal management.

According to Kazeem, the governor has demonstrated that prudent management of public resources can coexist with visible development and economic growth.

“Governor Makinde has, over the years, built a reputation as a leader who governs with prudence, transparency and measurable results.

“He has consistently shown that public resources can be managed responsibly without unnecessary extravagance. He has proven that development can be driven by planning rather than propaganda.

“He has demonstrated that government can deliver visible projects while maintaining fiscal discipline,” he said.

The APM further argued that Makinde possesses the temperament and national appeal needed to unite the opposition and attract support across the country’s geopolitical zones.

“He enjoys goodwill across party lines. He commands respect among governors irrespective of political affiliation,” Kazeem stated.

“Unlike politicians whose appeal is restricted to one geographical region, Governor Makinde possesses the temperament and credibility to attract support across Nigeria.

“For the opposition coalition, electability is just as important as popularity. The coalition cannot afford to present a candidate who merely excites a section of the country but cannot build a national winning alliance.

“Makinde offers that balance. He represents generational leadership. He understands both the private and public sectors. He has executive experience and has demonstrated courage in taking difficult decisions while remaining accessible to the people.”

The statement comes amid ongoing consultations among opposition political parties over the formation of a united front to challenge President Bola Tinubu and the APC in the 2027 general elections, with several stakeholders advocating the adoption of a consensus presidential candidate capable of building a broad national coalition.
