The Nigerian Police Archery Club has emerged overall winners of the 2nd National Archery Championship held at the Gymnasium of the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja.
The keenly contested championships saw the Police team running away with four gold, two silver and four bronze medals with the Nigerian Air force team coming second with two gold, one silver and three bronze medals.
Third position went to Abuja Archers Club with one gold, three silver and two bronze medals while Lekki Archers Club of Lagos took the fourth position with one gold and one silver ahead of Nigerian Navy Archers Club with two silver medals coming fifth while the sixth position went to the Correctional Services with no medal at all.
Rounding up the 5-day event, President of Nigeria Archery Federation, Alhaji Mohammed Abdullahi in his speech commended the various clubs and archers for their commitments and dedication to the sport which has taken it to an enviable position in the country’s sporting calendar assuring that the sport will within a short space of time take its rightful place both at continental and global meet.
The Championship was graced by top sports dignitaries including the the President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) Engr Habu Gumel represented by the 1st Vice President and President Badminton Federation of Nigeria, Frank Orbih, Brig-Gen Abdullahi Maikano, Hon Edem Bassey, former Special Assistant to former governor of Akwa Ibom state, Mr. Tikon Ishaku, President Table Tennis Federation, ACP Hassan Gwani from the Presidential Villa, Mr. Caleb Gidado, General Manager AU Sports Council Region 2 West Africa.
