The Nigeria Weightlifting team has won another medal at the ongoing International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) World Championships and Commonwealth Games qualifiers in Uzbekistan.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Joseph Edidiong won silver in Commonwealth Games qualifiers in the 67kg category with a total lift of 295kg on Friday.

Edidiong is currently placed 12th position at the World Championships.

Christopher Nwadei, Technical Director, Nigeria Weightlifting Federation (NWF), said Nigeria team would continue to win  medals everytime they compete in the championship.

“We came here for a business and we must do the work properly to make the country proud,” he said.

Team Nigeria has recorded a total of the six medals since the beginning of the Championship.

The medals are follows: two gold, two Silver and two bronze.

Stella Kingsley won the first gold on Wednesday for the Commonwealth Championship qualifiers.

“She currently placed 5th position at the IWF World Championships in the 49kg Category with a successful lift of Snatch 72kg,

Adenike Olarinoye won one silver and two bronze medals at the IWF World Championships in the 55kg Category with a lift of Snatch 90kg, Clean/Jerk 113kg and Total of 203kg on Thursday.

The championship is a twin Championships, it is a qualification event for the forth Commonwealth games next year in Birmingham, England.

It is also the IWF World Championships.

A total of seven lifters are representing the country in the double Championship.

They are : Stella Kingsley 49kg, Adenike Olarinoye 55kg, Rafiatu Lawal 59kg, Ogbonne Eze Joy 71kg.

Other lifters are: Taiwo Liadi 76kg, Emmanuel Appah 61kg and Joseph Edidiong 67kg.

The  International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) World Championships and Commonwealth Senior Championships which started on Dec. 7 will end on Dec.17, in Tashkent, Uzbekistan
