Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have neutralised several terrorists and intercepted a large cache of ammunition during separate operations in Zamfara and Kaduna states.
The operations were conducted on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, as part of sustained efforts to dismantle terrorist networks, disrupt arms supplies and deny terrorists freedom of action across the Joint Operations Area.
In Zamfara State, troops of Sector 2, acting on credible intelligence about the movement of terrorists from the Fakai General Area towards Kwanar Jolof and Tashar Dole in Shinkafi and Zurmi Local Government Areas, laid an ambush at Kwanar Jolof.
The troops engaged the terrorists, neutralising several of them, while others reportedly fled in disarray.
A subsequent search of the area led to the recovery of one rocket-propelled grenade launcher, one RPG bomb, one AK-47 rifle, six AK-47 magazines, 106 rounds of ammunition and a motorcycle, among other items.
Similarly, in Kaduna State, troops of Sector 1 intercepted a vehicle at a snap checkpoint along the Saulawa-Zaria Road.
According to the military, one of the passengers resisted an inspection of his bag and attempted to escape after being compelled to open it.
The troops pursued and neutralised the suspect.
A search of the bag subsequently uncovered 793 rounds of ammunition concealed inside gari.
The vehicle and its driver have been taken into military custody for further investigation.
The military said the operations were part of its sustained offensive against terrorist groups operating within the Joint Operations Area.
According to the Joint Task Force, the operations are aimed at “dismantling terrorist networks, disrupting the flow of arms and ammunition, and denying terrorists freedom of action across the Joint Operations Area.”
The task force said troops remained committed to the ongoing counter-terrorism operations and efforts to restore lasting peace to communities affected by terrorist activities.
“Troops remain resolute in the fight against terrorism and committed to the restoration of lasting peace across affected communities across the Joint Operations Area,” the statement said.
