A complainant at the Special Investigation Panel on alleged Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV) on Wednesday in Abuja told the panel how her husband snatched her eight (8) months old son and his one year and six months old sibling away from her since 2009, thereby denying her access to her two children.
According to the woman, her husband also took their first son (now 11 years old) alongside with the one that was eight months old (now 10 years old) to Lagos to stay in turns with his two married sisters without her consent.
Continuing, the young woman narrated to the panel how she allegedly got beaten in Lagos state by thugs which she claimed were hired by her husband’s siblings to deal with her, just because she came to visit her two sons.
She stated that when she discovered the school her two sons were attending in Lagos, she started waiting at a particular bus stop where their school buses normally come to pick them to school and that paid off because she was able to talk to them a couple of times .
The woman who hails from Anambra state informed the panel Chaired by the Executive Secretary of the National Human Rights Commission, Tony Ojukwu Esq. that she reported the case to the elders in their community but no amicable settlement was reached between her and the husband.
Though the respondent husband did not honour the invitation extended to him by the Secretariat of the panel, the panel ordered that the husband in question together with his two sisters who are having custody of the two children should come before the panel on Wednesday 21st of April 2021 with the two children in their custody.
