The Pharmacists Council of Nigeria, PCN has sealed over two hundred and sixty premises for various offences ranging from none registering to renewal of registration as required by law and for infringement on other provisions of the law.
The Council also directed fifteen members to remodel their premises in line with operational practice.
The Registrar of the Council, DR ELIJAH MOHAMMED who made this known at a news briefing in Lagos stated that the enforcement team was sent out to monitor compliance of pharmacies to COVID – 19 protocols.
DR ELIJAH who was represented by the Deputy Director Inspection and Monitoring, MRS ANTHONIA ARUYA, expressed regret that some of the pharmacies visited were not adhering to the recommended Covid-19 safety measures.
” Council suspended its activities due to the pandemic but had to resume having discovered a rise in unauthorised pharmacy outlets due to the exemption given to pharmaceutical services during the lockdown. “
The Registrar stressed that medicines are to be sold in a highly regulated environment and any attempt to practice without recourse to regulations guiding the practice remains unacceptable to government.
According to a report the Pharmacist Council wants members of the public to always look out for the annual licence and facility certificate which should be conspicuously displayed or made available on request at every Pharmacy outlet.
