A group that has persistently called for a probe into the alleged looting of about N2.5 billion military pension fund has frowned at the perceived silence of the National Assembly over the matter despite several petitions written and calling on them to visit the case.
Speaking with our correspondent, the group spokesperson, Idris Suleiman noted that they had expected that the National Assembly would have pointed searchlight on the matter during the last Arms deal probe but laments that despite all efforts the lawmakers never made it an agenda.
The group wondered how members who were voted in by Nigerians to represent their interest at the National Assembly would not be interested in knowing how funds meant for the men and women who had served this country in different capacities in the military would go missing.
“It is totally disheartening that members of the National Assembly of Nigeria would not want to show interest on a matter that bothers on the missing funds of our retired military men and women. This does not speak well of us as a Nation and it definitely shows that we are not that serious with the issue of tackling insecurity in the country,”
“We are saying that if they claim that Pointblank publications which broke the news in the first place of how a whooping sum of N2.5 billion withdrawn from the CBN was fraudulently diverted in one day by some top officers were false, we are unequivocally saying that we have more details with documents on how the said money was shared and who got what.
“We also have in our possession a classic document revealing names of bureau de change that got about 4.8m dollars.
“Well, this is the last statement we are going to make on this matter and if we wait without seeing any action from the National Assembly we plan to carry out a major protest in Abuja to drive home our goal. We would not subscribe to seeing the sweat of hardworking retirees of the Nigeria military go down the drain,” he said.
Recall Pointblank publication on March 6, 2021 reports: “Investigation reveals that Commodore Saburi Abayomi Lawal who is chairman of the Military Pension Board, on December 31, 2020, connived with top military chiefs, looted the over N2.5 Billion wired into the Military Pension account.”
The Pointblank News also claimed to have contacted the Public Relations Officer of Military Pension Board, Flt. Lt. O. Lawal, who queried “Are you EFCC, if you are not EFCC, why ask me? “
