The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has published the personal particulars and credentials submitted by presidential candidates for the 2027 general election, in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act.
The documents include those of President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate Peter Obi and his running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, as well as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
The published documents contain candidates’ academic certificates and other supporting credentials filed with the commission as part of the nomination process.
INEC’s action is in compliance with Section 29(3) of the Electoral Act, which requires the electoral body to display candidates’ personal particulars within 21 days of receiving them to allow public scrutiny and enable any interested person to raise objections where necessary.
The publication marks another key milestone in the timetable for the 2027 general election following the close of nominations for presidential and National Assembly candidates.
Political parties had submitted the names and particulars of their candidates through INEC’s online nomination portal before the commission made the documents available for public inspection at its headquarters and state offices.
The display of candidates’ credentials is a statutory requirement aimed at promoting transparency and accountability in the electoral process by allowing voters, civil society groups and other stakeholders to examine the documents submitted by those seeking elective offices before the elections.
