eSports Federation of Nigeria (EFN) has threatened to take the Minister of Youth and Sports, HON. SUNDAY DARE to court for setting up an Interim Body to run the affairs of the Federation in the country.
The acclaimed President of eSports Federation of Nigeria, AGBOR CLINTON, stated this while briefing the Press in Abuja on Wednesday. He argued that there is no controversy over the leadership of the Federation wondering why the Ministry would set up an Interim body.
He insisted that his led board is the only recognized body by the international body, adding that any interference from the sport ministry may attract severe sanctions from the world ruling body.
He also noted that the eSports federation which came into existence in 2017 is fully registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission in line with the Federal government directive and dully registered with the Nigerian Olympic Committee (NOC)
In his words: ”We are calling on the youth and sports loving President Muhammadu Buhari to please call Sunday Dare to order not to destroy the game in Nigeria”.
”That the minister should not inaugurate any interim E-sports body and that a committee be set up to investigate role played by Dr Ademola Are”.
”We are the board recognized by the Confederation of Africa eSports federation (IESF) with documentation at 98.5% completed and equally a founding father of the Confederation of west Africa, E-sports as the coordinator”.
CLINTON also revealed that the federation has recorded tremendous achievement since their assumption in 2017.
”Under this present board of the eSports federation we have recorded tremendous achievement without a single, support from the ministry of sports as time without number the sports ministry made it clear to us that the ministry has no budget for the federation”.
According to him ”We have 36 states and the FCT eSports association across the federation with over seventy five private business names affiliated to the E-sports federation of Nigeria working together as partners in progress in the development of the game”.
Meanwhile, the Director of Grass root sports Development in the Ministry of Youth and Sports, DR DEMOLA ARE, maintained that the CLINTON AGBOR led board is not recognized by the ministry, stressing that it is only the Sports Ministry that has the power to set up a Federation.
ARE also noted that whatever approval that was hitherto given to their group by the Ministry has since been stepped down which he stated was within the rights of the Ministry to do so.
According to DR ARE, investigation carried out by the Ministry revealed that the Clinton group did not in any way meet the requirements needed for the setting up of a Federation.
