The protesters and sympathizers in their Thousands from all ages including the aged persons from the community located in Okbokwi LGA of Benue state decried the killing of Mr Echonu Adah, the senior lecturer who was murdered on the 5th of December 2021 by suspected bandits.
The protesters in a peaceful manner called on government at all levels to come to the aid of Ajiede community.
They demanded an end to the constant killing of innocent citizens in the community and fish out perpetrators of the crime.
While calling on security operatives to fish out the killers of Echonu Adah, the protesters said they are tired of burying their young ones.
Narrating their ordeals to newsmen yesterday in Benue state, brother to the deceased and Deputy Publicity Secretary of the All Progress Congress (APC), Hon Inalegwi Adah, said Echobu was killed on his way from Ajiede to Ugbokolo during a gun battle between the police, vigilantes and suspected kidnappers.
According to him, Echobu was travelling to Ugbololo with vigilantes in his Toyota Corolla salon car with registration number, PKG 540 AA when they met three policemen with arms.
According to Inalegwei one of policemen was known to the travellers.
Inalegwei said the policemen told them they had encountered kidnappers on the same route and were lucky to escape.
Speaking further he said the policemen urged the deceased to give them a lift which he obliged.
He said after driving for about ten minutes, they were stopped by suspected kidnappers which resulted in a gun battle between the vigilantes, kidnappers and the Policemen, in the process Echobu Adah was killed while nothing happen to others in the same car and at the scene.
The irate youths who couldn’t bear the loss of the married 44 year old father of four children barricaded the roads leading to the community and register their anger to Ugbokolo divisional police station as well demand for justice over the death of the Benue state polytechnic Senior lecturer.
When contacted the Ugbokolo divisional Police Station DCO, he said, “I am aware of the case but the case is beyond me”,
The DCO advised we contact the Area command.
However, efforts to reach the Area command proved abortive.
