… Federation to host Military Games in 2021-Abdullahi

By FOLUSHO ALADE

As part of the activities marking the 2020 Sports Writers Association of Nigeria SWAN, FCT chapter’s SWAN Week, the association in partnership with the Archery Federation of Nigeria held a One-Day Training workshop on how to properly report the sport of Archery for Sports journalists at the hockey pitch, Package B of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja on Tuesday.

Speaking to the journalists during the event, President of the Nigeria Archery Federation, Alhaji  Mohammed Abdullahi thanked the sports writers for taking time out  to be part of the occasion while urging them to help promote the sport further.

In his words: “Archery is relatively young in Nigeria but we are doing our best to spread it across the nooks and crannies of the country and we need the media as an important stakeholder.

“We have entered partnership with all the three tiers of the Armed forces, namely Army, Airforce and the Nigerian  Navy, the Nigeria Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Nigeria Custom service and other paramilitary to promote the sport of Archery”

“As we speak all these security agencies have a standing Archery club and a team to present at any event” Abdullahi said.

The President also promised to feature members of the FCT Sports Writers Association of Nigeria in the  forthcoming Military Archery Games to be held in February 2020.

“Maybe first week February, 2021, we are going to have the Military Games, that is the Military Archery training and full blown competition”. He said.

“At that point we will ask the FCT Sports Writers Association to join in that training. So it could be the Sports Writers training along with the Military.

‘We did one early this year at the Abacha Barracks and it was a success story. So that time I said that the next one that we will do we will make sure the Media is part of it.

Some of the Participants aiming and shooting at the event.

High point of the event was the exhibition on how to Shoot and aim the Bull’s eyes where members of the FCT SWAN led by the Archery Federation president, Mohammed Abdullahi  and the Federation’s Technical director and Chief Instructor were taught the rudiments of the sport in a practical fashion.
