Security agencies heighten vigilance around schools nationwide — Alausa
The Federal Government has reassured parents, guardians and other stakeholders that all Federal Unity Colleges across the country will resume academic activities on Monday, September 14, 2026, as scheduled.
The Federal Ministry of Education, in a statement issued on Friday by the Director, Press and Public Relations, Boriowo Folasade, said necessary measures had been put in place to ensure a safe, peaceful and seamless commencement of the new academic session.
The ministry said the assurance followed concerns surrounding the safety and wellbeing of students and staff, stressing that the government remained committed to providing a secure and conducive environment for teaching and learning in the nation’s Federal Unity Colleges.
The Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, said relevant security agencies had been informed of the resumption arrangements and were taking steps to strengthen security around the schools and their immediate environments.
“The safety and wellbeing of students and staff remain central to the Federal Government’s commitment to providing a secure and conducive environment for teaching and learning,” Alausa said.
According to the minister, the coordinated security efforts are aimed at protecting students, teachers, school administrators and other members of the school communities as academic activities resume nationwide.
He explained that security agencies would maintain heightened vigilance around the Federal Unity Colleges, while school authorities were expected to sustain close coordination with the relevant agencies and other appropriate authorities.
Alausa urged parents and guardians not to panic but to rely on official information from the government and proceed with preparations for their children and wards to return to their respective schools on Monday.
“Parents and guardians are urged to remain calm, rely on official information and proceed with their preparations, ensuring that their children and wards return to their respective Federal Unity Colleges on Monday as scheduled,” the minister said.
The minister also directed the management of the schools to maintain close communication with security agencies and other relevant authorities to facilitate an orderly and secure resumption.
He called on students, parents, teachers, school administrators and other stakeholders to work together towards maintaining a peaceful, supportive and secure learning environment.
According to him, ensuring the safety of learners should not be regarded as the responsibility of government or security agencies alone, but as a shared responsibility involving all members of the school community.
The ministry said it would continue to monitor developments across the country and take necessary measures, in collaboration with relevant authorities, to guarantee the smooth and safe continuation of academic activities in all Federal Unity Colleges.
It further reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s education system and ensuring that children have access to quality education in a safe and conducive environment.
The ministry said the commitment was consistent with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which places education and human capital development among the key drivers of Nigeria’s sustainable growth and national development.
The Federal Ministry of Education therefore assured students, parents, guardians, teachers and members of the public that adequate arrangements were in place to support a safe, peaceful and successful resumption in Federal Unity Colleges nationwide.
The assurance comes as students and parents prepare for the commencement of the new academic session on Monday, September 14.
