Troops of 27 Task Force Brigade, Sector 2, Operation Hadin Kai, have foiled an ambush by suspected Boko Haram terrorists along the Buni Gari–Buratai axis in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State, recovering rocket-propelled grenade bombs, ammunition, motorcycles and other combat equipment.
The troops reportedly encountered the terrorists while conducting a routine patrol along the axis on Monday, September 7, 2026, and engaged them, forcing the insurgents to withdraw from the area.
Following the encounter, reinforcements were deployed to clear the ambush site and conduct further operations around the area.
During the operation, the troops discovered and dismantled several makeshift camps believed to have been used by the terrorists as temporary staging and hideout locations.
Items recovered from the camps and operational area included one motorcycle, bicycles, a magazine, ammunition and rocket-propelled grenade bombs.
The military said no casualty was recorded among its personnel during the encounter, although some military vehicles were damaged in the engagement.
Despite the damage, the troops remained operational and successfully completed the mission.
The Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation Hadin Kai, Capt. Mohammed Goni, said the operation demonstrated the determination of the troops to deny terrorists freedom of action in the theatre.
“The operation underscores the resolve and fighting spirit of troops of Operation HADIN KAI to deny terrorist elements freedom of action, disrupt their activities and protect communities across the theatre.”
Goni said the security situation within the area of responsibility remained calm but unpredictable, adding that troops would sustain aggressive patrols and coordinated security operations to protect lives and property.

He urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious persons, movements or activities to security agencies.
