Troops of Operation Enduring Peace have foiled an ambush by suspected bandits during a follow-up operation in Nwur village, Langtang North Local Government Area of Plateau State, recovering an AK-47 rifle and ammunition from the scene.
The operation followed the arrest and interrogation of a suspected member of the bandit group, whose confession provided intelligence on the location of a concealed weapon.
Acting on the information, troops escorted the suspect to Nwur village to recover the weapon believed to have been hidden by the criminal syndicate.
However, as the troops approached the suspected hideout, members of the syndicate reportedly opened fire on the security personnel in an attempt to ambush them.
The troops responded with superior firepower, neutralising one of the attackers as well as the arrested suspect who was caught in the ensuing exchange of fire.
Following the encounter, the troops conducted an exploitation of the area and recovered one AK-47 rifle, one AK-47 magazine and two rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition abandoned by the fleeing criminals.
The troops have continued exploitation operations within the general area to track down other members of the bandit syndicate.
Operation Enduring Peace reaffirmed its commitment to denying criminal elements freedom of action and ensuring the safety and security of law-abiding residents across Plateau State.
