Troops of Operation SAVANNAH SHIELD have neutralised four suspected kidnappers and rescued an abducted victim during an ambush operation in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State.
The operation was carried out by troops of Sector 1 deployed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB), Kaiama, following credible intelligence on the movement of suspected kidnappers along the Jonloji Village riverine axis.
Security sources said the troops laid an ambush at a known crossing point used by the criminal group, leading to a gun battle in which four of the suspected kidnappers were killed.
During the operation, the troops rescued one kidnap victim and recovered a pump-action shotgun, four motorcycles and ₦64,000 suspected to be proceeds of criminal activities.
The rescued victim was evacuated to the Kaiama General Hospital for medical attention, while the recovered items have been taken into custody for further investigation.
A military source said the operation forms part of the ongoing Operation SAVANNAH SHIELD, aimed at dismantling kidnapping and other criminal networks operating across Kwara and neighbouring states.
“The operation is part of sustained efforts to dismantle kidnapping syndicates and other criminal elements threatening communities in the region. Troops remain committed to maintaining offensive operations to protect lives and property,” the source said.
