Brazil were held to a frustrating 1-1 draw by a resilient Morocco side at the MetLife Stadium in their opening Group C clash of the FIFA World Cup in New Jersey.
The Atlas Lions struck first in the 21st minute when Ismael Saibari finished off a brilliant counterattack to silence the Brazilian supporters. Brazil responded in the 32nd minute through Vinícius Júnior, powerful strike helping the South Americans back on level terms before halftime.
Despite creating several opportunities in the second half, neither side could find the winning goal as the points were shared.
While the result highlighted Morocco’s growing strength on the international stage, much of the attention fell on 18-year-old midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi.
The youngster delivered a composed and commanding display in the middle of the park, dictating possession and matching Brazil’s experienced stars stride for stride. His energy, vision, and maturity was crucial as Morocco maintain control during key periods of the game.
Elsewhere in Group C, Scotland secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Haiti to move to the top of the standings. John McGinn scored the decisive goal in the 67th minute after Scotland had dominated much of the encounter.
The result leaves Scotland in a strong position heading into their next fixture, while Brazil and Morocco will take reflect on their performances as the battle for qualification intensifies.
