Members of the traveling Nigerian contingent to Libya for Tuesday’s AFCON 2025 Qualifying fixture would most likely sleep at the Al Abraq International Airport after arriving Sunday.
According to Libyan authorities a technical glitch with the Airport’s passport system means that players and officials of the Super Eagles would have to spend long hours at the airport.
Libya News Today1 claimed that it would take about 6 hours for the passport system to become functional which could stretch into early hours of Monday 14 October 2024.
The Super Eagles found themselves at the Al Abraq Airport after their airplane, bound for Benghazi, was diverted to another city more than a two hour drive from the original destination.
Reports in Libya also claimed that after airport clearance, a distance of 240km by road would be waiting for the Nigerian team to Benina venue of the match.
It’s highly unlikely the Super Eagles will train at the 10,000 capacity Benina Martyrs Stadium on Monday as they could be stressed from the long road trip.
Nigeria beat Libya 1-0 in the first leg played last Friday in Uyo to occupy top spot in Group D while the North Africans sit in last place.
Tuesday’s matchup kicks off at 8pm, local time.
