The Acting Director, Grassroots Sports Development, of the Ministry of Youths and Sports Development ,Patrick Okeke on Monday commended the good conduct of the Military and Para-military agencies that participated in the 5th edition of the One Service One Medal (OSOM) Games .
Okeke told newsmen during the closing ceremony of OSOM games at the Moshood Abiola stadium complex Abuja that the next edition will be more interesting and glamorous .
Okeke who speak on behalf of the Permanent Secretary Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Ismailia Abubakar, said he thank all the stakeholders for their contributions to the success recorded at this year games.
According to the acting director who also serves as the Chairman of Organizing Committee of the Games, the Osom Games serve as a platform for the identification of sports talents from the military and para military agencies in the country .
“Talented athletes have been discovered and groomed to represent the country at different international competition where they won laurels since the inception of OSOM in 2015
“This year edition it is designed to build a vibrant and robust pool of talented athletes that represent the country at all times at international sports meets.
“The union between the ministry of youth and sports development and the military and para military agencies is born out of the desire and zeal to break new grounds in the development of humanity and make a greater place through sports,” he said
A total of 15 sports feature in the this year’s events, they include Athletics, Swimming, Taekwondo, Weightlifting, Tug of War, Beach Volleyball, Boxing, Chess, Squash, Scrabble.
Others are Golf, Tennis, Shooting, Table Tennis and Badminton.
The 5th edition of the OSOM games which started on March 30th April ended on Monday, 4th April 2022.
