The President of Nigeria Chess Federation, Sani Mohammed, on Thursday in Abuja said the Federation is set to host Africa Individual Championship in June in Lagos.
In an interview with sports journalist, Mohammed said the competition will be organized in collaboration with Africa Confederation of Chess from June 18 to June 29 in Lagos.
According to him, participants from all countries in Africa are expected to be part of the championship.
His words : “We have started preparation already and I have given out the information to the Local Organising Committee ( LOC) .
“They had two meetings along with the continental representative, we are working tediously to have a successful hosting and competition.
“I will advise all participants in Nigerian to start preparing now to have a good outstanding performance in the competition,” he said.
The president said his priority is to develop the game in all the six geopolitical zones in the country.
“I charge all the members of the board zonal representative to organise Chess competition in their areas because thsi is the way to develop the game.
“Demola Ali representing northwest competition held his own in kaduna with a significant participation of Chess players .
“Anambra already started preparation for the southeast they brought in chess and mathematics challenged at the end of this April.
“The next competition is the South West chess tournament, this is the way to grow chess in the grassroots development,” he said.
