… Both athletes may face AFN sanctions
The duo of Favour Ofili and Rosemary Chukwuma both failed to show up for the women’s 100m semi-final on Saturday at the on-going African Seniors Championships in Douala, Cameroon.
A team coach who is familiar with the matter said over time both athletes have given the Athletics Federation of Nigeria cause for concern with their slack attitude towards competitions involving Nigeria citing the National Championships trials in Benin City where Chukwuma pulled out of the women’s 200m citing strained muscles as an example.
“These two athletes are becoming something else, and it is time we let them know that they have to commit themselves to the national cause,” the coach said.
“Rosemary gave us a lot of problems at the World Championships in Budapest and it ultimately caused us in the relay.
“It is about time the AFN whip them in line.”
The AFN technical committee it was gathered is now looking into the circumstances surrounding Ofili and Chukwuma’s refusal to run the 100m.
