Top official and General Manager Nigeria Cricket Federation, MR. EMEKA IGWILO on Monday paid a courtesy visit to UNIZIK Vice Chancellor, PROF. CHARLES ESIMONE, FAS, in his office.
MR EMEKA IGWILO stated that he came on a visit to the University to train the officers of the Directorate on the game of Cricket, the rules, changes and modalities involved in the game as well as to form a formidable cricket club in UNIZIK.
He stated that Anambra State is blessed with good cricketers most especially from the Bishop Crowther Seminary and Saint John of God Secondary School all in Awka.
He also presented some souvenirs produced from the just concluded 10th Chuma Anosike Cricket Championship.
The NCF brochure of the ICC U19 Cricket World cup outing in South Africa was also presented.
In his reaction, the Vice Chancellor, thanked the official for factoring UNIZIK into the plans of the NCF.
Prof. Esimone stated that he is poised to reposition sports in UNIZIK with his vision to give concessional admission for young men and women who are excelling in sports and wish to further their academics.
The Professor of Biopharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Microbiology stated that an ivory tower is not complete if it is lacking in sporting facilities.
PROF. ESIMONE stated that he has as part of his plans to construct a standard swimming pool and other sports facilities to give sport a facelift in the institution so as to curtail social vices and keep the youth focused towards achieving their goals of being in the Ivory Tower.
In company of the Cricket officials to the Vice Chancellor were, the Institution’s new Director of Sports, MR. KEN OGBONNA and a member of the UNIZIK Sports Committee and the former Acting Director, MRS ANTHONIA CHUKWUDI.
