The first game of the 10TH SOUTH EAST CRICKET CHAMPIONSHIP tagged Chuma Anosike Cup ended up in favour of Enugu State today (Thursday) at the Saint Paul University Cricket pitch, Awka.
In the first innings, Team Enugu won the toss and elected to bat putting up a total of 119 all out in 16.5 overs.
OMEIHEUKWU WALTER topped the scores for Enugu with 27 runs off 22 balls. He was followed by ANIEKAN IKPEWE who batted 14 off 23.
YOUNG EGEMASI PECULIAR CHIMBUCHI of Abia Team bowled a stunning 4 wickets after his 4 overs for 22. OBI OLUEBUBE also took two wickets in 3 overs for 17.
At the end of the second innings, Abia scored 86 runs all out in 12.2 overs giving Enugu a 33 runs victory.
OSUJI EBUBE and DAVIS MICHEAL efforts were unable to cancel Enugu State 119 runs both scored the highest totals of 12 off 14 and 10 off 5 , respectively, to bring Abia total runs to 86.
The bowling of SUNDAY UWEM and HENRY OKAFOR who took 2 wickets each for 6 and 22 runs after bowling 4 and 2 overs couldn’t lift the burden off their shoulder.
The Chairman Local Organising Committee, LOC, CHARLES OBASI described the opening match between Enugu and Abia state as a match one could his money adding more exciting matches would be seen as the tournament continues.
OBASI, said the tournament bring every cricketers from South East region together to know each other and create a bond among them adding that the Chuma Anosike Cup has become a tradition which all the cricketers look forward to every year.
“The opening ceremony match between Enugu and Abia state worth watching and exciting. The young lady showed that they have a lot to give to the country if given the opportunity to represent the country.
“The tournament has become a tradition where the players look up to every year and more national team players would be produced through this tournament.it was not a new thing seeing some South East cricketers representing the country through Chuma Anosike Cup” OBASI said.
