Nigeria football Sunday was thrown into mourning as Nasarawa United defender, CHINEME MARTINS slumped and died during a Match day 23 of the NPFL encounter with Katsina United at the LAFIA TOWNSHIP STADIUM in LAFIA, Nasarawa state.
According to reports, the incident occurred after a collision with a Katsina United player in the centre of the field and landed awkwardly during the first half.
The medical personnel rushed to the field but effort to revive him was unsuccessful.
The situation was made worse when the ambulance stationed in the field failed to start and was pushed into the field.
The governor’s Press Crew bus was brought in to rush him to the hospital.
But it was understood that he died right there in the field.
Although Nasarawa United won the match 3-0, the victory was overshadowed by the sad event as the players, coaches and officials of the club were seen crying after the final whistle.
As at the time of filling this reports, Nasarawa United management is yet to issue official statement.
