The Nigerian women league Thursday, March 5, 2020, launched new logos and a change of name to herald the 2019/2020 women football season.

Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) which consist of three (3) cadres; Nigeria Women Premier League (NWPL), NWFL Pro-League and the Amateur League will now be known as NWFL Premiership, NWFL Championship and NWFL Nationwide.

The Nigeria Women Premier League (NWPL) which kicks off on Wednesday, March 18, 2020, will now be known as the NWFL Premiership with sixteen (16) clubs divided into two (2) groups of eight (8) clubs each in an abridged league format.

Rivers Angels are defending Champions after their slim 1-0 victory over Confluence Queens during last season Super 4 tournament at SOCCER TEMPLE, AGEGE STADIUM, Lagos.

The NWFL Pro-League will now be referred to as the NWFL Championship. This is the second tier league, below the NWFL Premiership.

From the NWFL Championship, two (2) clubs will gain promotion to the NWFL Premiership.

Last season, Invincible Angels and Kaduna Queens were relegated to the NWFL Championship from NWFL Premiership while Royal Queens (formerly Olori Babes) and Pelican Stars gained promotion to the NWFL Premiership from the NWFL Championship.

The last and third tier of the league will now be known as the NWFL Nationwide.

This will replace the NWFL Pro-League. From the NWFL Nationwide, two (2) clubs will be promoted to the NWFL Championship.

At the end of 2020 NWFL Amateur League, Kwara Ladies and Ubakala Queens were promoted to the NWFL Championship.

The President of Nigeria Football Federation, MELVIN AMAJU PINNICK praised the league board during the logo unveiling ceremony.

In his words:  ” I want to thank Aisha Falode for putting this up, her selfless service is evident and we have never regretted giving her the opportunity to head Women’s Football in Nigeria. She is a great personality. ”

The rebranding is to position women football and by extension the women league in Nigeria in order to drive sponsors and more media coverage to be the best Women’s Football League in Africa according to the Chairperson the Nigerian women league, AISHA FALODE.
