Senator representing Kwara Central Senatorial District, Saliu Mustapha, has resigned his membership of the All Progressives Congress in Kwara State.
Mustapha announced his resignation in a statement on Friday, citing recent developments within the party and the need to pursue a political path that aligns with his principles and the aspirations of the people he represents.
The senator said the decision followed weeks of consultations with stakeholders, supporters, constituents across Kwara Central and other well-meaning Kwarans.
He said, “As a politician, I have always believed that politics must be about people, principles and purpose. Where the path of a political platform no longer sufficiently aligns with these convictions and the aspirations of the people one represents, the honourable thing to do is to chart a new course.”
Mustapha, who is also known as Turaki of Ilorin Emirate, expressed appreciation to the APC leadership, including President Bola Tinubu, for the relationships and experiences he had gained during his time in the party.
He assured his constituents, supporters, political associates and stakeholders that his resignation from the APC would not affect his commitment to serving the people of Kwara Central, Kwara State and Nigeria.
“While my political platform may change, my principles, my purpose and my commitment to the people remain unchanged,” he said.
Mustapha added that he remained committed to the interests and development of his constituents and would continue to serve the people of Kwara Central and the state at large.
