16 teams will compete in this year’s Nigeria Basketball Federation NBBF Premier league for men.
The NBBF announced commencement dates for the highly anticipated competition at the weekend following successful conclusion of the Women’s League in Lagos.
The competing men’s teams are split into two conferences – Savannah and Atlantic.
Hostilities in the Savannah will take place in Jos, Plateau State, from 25 October to 3 November 2024 inside the Rayfield Indoor Gym, Jos, Plateau State.
The Atlantic division, will be held at the Indoor Sports Hall, Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City, Edo State, during the same period.
Atlantic teams include defending champions Rivers Hoppers, who went ahead to finish in third place at the last edition of the Basketball Africa League, BAL.
Others in the group include Kwara Falcons of Ilorin, Ebun Comets of Lagos; Hoops And Read of Lagos; Police Baton of Lagos; Lagos Legends; Oluyole Warriors of Oyo State and Delta Force of Delta State.
Teams vying for honours in the Savannah are Nigeria Customs of Abuja; Nile University of Abuja; Kano Pillars of Kano and Bauchi Nets of Bauchi.
Others are Gboko City Chiefs of Benue State; Gombe Bulls of Gombe State; Correctional Basketball club of Abuja and Plateau Peaks of Jos, Plateau State.
Four teams are expected to qualify from each of the conferences for the final 8 tournament, that would decide the 2024 champion.
Meanwhile, the NBBF has reassured teams and officials of a well organised men’s premier league, that would eventually produce worthy Nigerian champions for the continental championship, BAL.
