…wants contractor to expedite action
Nasarawa State governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule, has expressed dissatisfaction with the progress of work on the 18km Gudi/Moroa rural road, directing the contractor, Tilley Gyado & Co Nigeria Limited, to expedite action on the project.
Engineer Sule showed his disapproval with the progress of work when he visited the site of the project, on Tuesday.
The governor who couldn’t hide his dissatisfaction with the progress of work on the site, urged the contractor to expedite action with a view to making appreciable progress within the shortest possible time.
Engineer Sule lamented the paucity of equipment mobilised by the contractor on site, warning that, if the contractor is not able to move sufficient equipment to effectively handle the project, it will be the last time the firm will handle any government project.
The governor specifically directed the contractor to simultaneously begin concrete and earth works, with a view to making visible progress.
He lamented that, at the peak of the raining season, Moroa is completely cut off from Gudi and other communities, explaining the reason for embarking on the project.
“I’m from Gudi and I know this road too well. Communication between Moroa and Gudi is cut off at the peak of the raining season.
“We must be able to make the road accessible and for people to see that we are making progress on the project,” Engineer Sule said.
The governor further directed the contractor to complete all the culverts on the road, particularly the four-box culvert at Angwan Sabo, which makes it impossible for the people to communicate especially at the peak of the raining season.
He warned that government will not make another payment to the contractor until appreciable progress is made on the site of the project.
Responding, representative of the company handling the project, Jack Tilley Gyado, assured the governor that his firm has the required equipment to handle the project, adding that he will mobilise more equipment from Jos.
Tilley Gyado promised to carry out both the concrete and earth works simultaneously, pledging to complete the project and hand over to the state government by March next year.
Earlier, the governor inspected ongoing construction of storm water drainages undertaken by the Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP), at the Rice Mill area of Lafia, the state capital.
